Children with and without speech and language difficulties join together for fun, exciting activities that are designed to stimulate language and social interaction. In this supported environment, verbal and physical prompts are utilized to encourage children to: invite, trade, greet, defend and negotiate. Over time the therapists' support is faded as the childen

begin to use their skills spontaneously.

A highly interactive and engaging camp designed to teach children the communication skills necessary for improving the following social/communicative functions:

Preschool age children (ages 3-5) work on the following skills:

Greeting friends
Listening with your whole body
Staying "with the group"
Using eye contact
Taking turns talking (I talk - you talk)
Reading nonverbal signals
Expressing their feelings/thoughts

School age children (ages 6-10 ) work on the following skills:

Identifying Expected vs. Unexpected Behaviors
Thinking Flexibly
Whole Body Listening
Perspective Taking
Understanding Hidden Social Rules
Staying on Topic
Switching Topics
Being a Good Leader/Participant
Taking Turns

Kamp Talkalot is an opportunity for your child to participate in an intensive pragmatic language experience. Pragmatic language is the use of communication of the purpose of interactive or social communication. Therapists set up situations that require your child to use language appropriately to communicate with other children.

SAMPLE SCHEDULE FOR PRE-K GRADE AND OLDER
Opening Circle - (9:00 - 9:20 A.M.)
Objectives:	Meet and greet, calling attention by using a peer’s name, responding, asking questions and eye contact
Strategies:	Interactive songs, games
Game Time - (9:20 - 9:50 A.M.)
Objectives:	Turn taking, cooperation, flexibility, sharing, negotiating and communicative interaction
Strategies:	Limit materials, encourage problem solving
Small Group - (9:50 - 10:10 A.M.)
Objectives:	Training specific communication skills (e.g. eye contact, message repair, attention getting)
Strategies:	Role playing, puppets, stories, establishing routines, providing feedback on communication skills
Craft Time - (10:10 - 10:40 A.M.)
Objectives:	Problem solving, requesting, sharing, using peers names, commenting, completing a task
Strategies:	Limit materials, assign specific children to be in charge of certain materials, facilitate peer conversations and interactions
Center/Choice Time - (10:40 - 11:10 A.M.)
Objectives:	Creating opportunities to share, problem solving and interacting with peers
Strategies:	Limit the number of centers and materials to encourage interaction, facilitate cooperative play
Snack Time - (11:10 - 11:30 A.M.)
Objectives:	Requesting, politeness, initiating and maintaining conversations
Strategies:	Provide responsibilities for children, set up opportunities to ask for items needed
Partner Project - (11:30 - 11:50 A.M.)
Objectives:	Giving directions, problem solving, attending to a speaker, gaining attention
Strategies:	Provide enough materials for two peers to create one project
Sharing/Closing Circle - (11:50 - 12:00 P.M.)
Objectives:	Giving and receiving compliments, commenting, attending to a speaker, politeness
Strategies:	Allow students to show their projects, encourage comments and compliments from peers
